I have experience teaching science content across a variety of groups, including elementary, 8th grade, pre-service teachers, in-service teachers, and practicing scientists. I also have experience teaching in both the traditional classroom setting as well as online settings. 



Professional Teaching Experience

Course Instructor University of Iowa (2009-2013) 

Designed and taught 2 courses for undergraduate teaching majors: Application to Earth and Environmental Sciences and The Nature of Science.


Professional Development Workshop Coordinator and Instructor University of Iowa (2011)

Coordinated logistics for and designed an NSF funded professional development workshop for teachers on the topic of climate, weather, and energy. Designed and implemented the pedagogical approaches used during the workshop, lined up guest speakers, and arranged field trips.


TASK Fellowship (NSF GK-12 extension) University of Alaska (2007-2008)

Worked with a partner teacher in a local middle school teaching 8th grade physical science. Also independently taught a week-long summer course on rockets for 6th and 7th grade students.


Lab Instructor University of Alaska (2008)

Developed and taught 4 lab activities to 40 teachers in a lab setting for the Geophysical Institute's summer program.


WiSE Visiting Scientist- Middle School Classrooms Iowa State University (2005-2006) 

Worked for Women in Science and Engineering visiting K-9 grade students across the state of Iowa, engaging student in science inquiry activities.

Service-Based Teaching Experience

Teaching Practicum University of Iowa (2010) 

Independently taught two lessons to an undergraduate practicum course. Lessons were on incorporating technology into the science classroom and interdisciplinary approaches to teaching science. Also observed and critiqued 5 students during their first classroom teaching experience.


ATEEC Workshop Aid University of Northern Iowa (2001-2009) 

Assisted with an NSF funded summer workshop for high school and community college teachers. Served as content expert, assistant to the program director, and helped with logistical issues.


Troop Recruiter Girl Scouts of the USA (2004-2006) 

Trained new Girl Scout Leaders in basic leader orientation- discussing rules, regulations, and tips for effective leadership.
