Project Summary
Due to client privacy, the legal company in this case study will be referred to as ABC Legal. The company is located in a region where air quality is a recurring issue.
In this case, ABC Legal was representing a defendant and needed to know whether the air quality on the day in question was higher than typical for that region during that time of the year.
Yarker Consulting performed Forensic Meteorology and submitted a report as an expert witness for the case. The report provided ABC Legal with sufficient evidence to argue their case which they ultimately settled, allowing them to avoid taking the case to trial.
The Findings
Yarker Consulting contributed a statistical analysis of the atmospheric aerosols of interest for the case. Using aerosol data for years preceding and proceeding the event in question, statistical significance tests were performed to determine if the air quality levels were unusual.
Our findings agreed with Company B’s analysis, which gave ABC Legal confidence with their decision to proceed with their settlement offer, saving time and money from taking the case to trial.
