Internship in Computer Science and Weather Modeling

Yarker Consulting is looking for a part-time intern to work with Cloud Computing Services to prepare WRF and data visualization software for distribution to K-12 educators. The intern must be familiar with Linux-based operating systems to be successful in this position.
About The Project
Yarker Consulting is part of an international team of atmospheric scientists working on new and innovative strategies to make weather data analysis and modeling accessible for everyone, including high school and middle school students. The goal is to maximize access to software used in science research with as few technical requirements as possible, so that they can focus on learning the science rather than spend time overcoming issues with technology.
Expectations
- Work directly with the project manager to develop and prioritize tasks.
- Will learn how to install a Linux-based operating system within a cloud computing system.
- Will learn how to install a version of the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) Model that has been designed for educational use.
- Will learn how to install and work with a variety of data visualization tools in a Linux-based operating system.
- Should be able to work on their own to set realistic goals and meet expected deadlines.
Requirements
- Student majoring in a technical field. Interest in meteorology is preferred, but not required.
- Must be familiar working with Linux-based operating systems.
- Ability to work independently to meet deadlines.
- Excellent technical skills and high attention to detail.
- Ability to devote approximately 2-4 hours per week to this project.
Preferred Start Date: Immediately.
Length of Internship: Negotiable, but generally offer 6-month contracts.
Location: Remote.
Pay: Unpaid.
