Insurance Case Study
Project Summary
Due to client privacy, the insurance company in this case study will be referred to as ABC Insurance. ABC Insurance was in a dispute about whether a series of hail and wind damage was the result of one storm system or multiple separate events.
Yarker Consulting performed Forensic Meteorology service and provided a detailed verbal recommendation that the storm damage was caused by multiple storm events, saving ABC Insurance hundreds of thousands of dollars in their dispute.
Data Collection
As experienced meteorologists, we know where accurate, reliable data is archived in order to efficiently perform a forensic meteorology analysis.
We were able to obtain the following data relevant to the events of interest to ABC Insurance.
The Findings
While both storms formed from the same synoptic-scale trough, it was evident from the progression of the low at the surface that the first round of storms stabilized the atmosphere for before stalling and regaining strength two days later.
Both events were the result of two seperate frontal systems and was documented as two separate storm events by the SPC.
It was our recommendation that ABC Insurance consider the storm damage the result of two separate storm events.
